Azerbaijan, Turkey discuss mutual recognition of electronic signatures
Last year during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Turkey, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of electronic signature between the two countries was signed. Following the signing of the memorandum, technical discussions and assessments were held between Azerbaijan and Turkey in this regard.
As a continuation of the discussions, these days a delegation led by Elnar Asadov, Director of the Data Processing Center of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies paid an official visit to Turkey.
During the visit, the delegation also held meetings with the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Turkey, BTK (Turkey’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority) and Tubitak (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). Technical issues and mechanisms for mutual recognition of electronic signatures were discussed at the meetings. During the discussions held at the Istanbul Congress Center, the sides exchanged views on the use of electronic signatures, as well as the mutual recognition of this infrastructure by the countries.
Mutual recognition of the electronic signature system will allow mutual recognition of electronic signatures between Azerbaijan and Turkey, and make it possible to sign and send all documents electronically in the field of customs. This, in turn, will reduce the queues at checkpoints, eliminate the risk of falsification of documents and minimize contacts between citizens and officials.
Note that according to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Electronic Signature and Electronic Document”, regulation of international cooperation in the field of electronic signature is carried out by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies. In order to enhance international cooperation, the working group created by experts from the European Commission’s TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument) has studied the current situation in our country on electronic identification and reliable services and analyzed in terms of the European standards.
